Have you ever tried to be locked out of an old PC by a forgotten password of BIOS? There is no need for you to get frustrated. It is easy to bypass this safeguard.

STEPS:

DESKTOP:

1.            Turn off the computer and be sure that it is not plugged in.

2.            Open up the case of your computer. You need to have physical access to the motherboard to finish this procedure.

3.            Find a circular shape,How to Break a BIOS Password Articles usually silver metallic thing on the motherboard. It is the CMOS battery.

4.            Slowly detach the CMOS battery, prevent from having contact with it, and leave it for 700 seconds. This will eliminate the CMOS memory which holds the BIOS password and all configurations.

5.            Put the battery back and turn on the computer.

6.            The computer must then warn you that the configuration of CMOS couldn’t be found. You could either reconfigure it manually or restore original settings. Restoring the original configuration is just fine.

7.            You will see that the password of BIOS has been cleared out and you could boot w/out it. You may change the BIOS password to something by going to the BIOS configuration and putting a new Password.

Laptop

Take note that laptops could be trickier, especially if it is a newer model. If it has a protection chip on the motherboard, just forget about it. You either have to remove the chip or call the mfg for the MASTER password. If you could boot up a floppy disk or CD, try any of these methods:

1.            Make a Windows 98 SE bootable media "or something that lets you boot into MS DOS" and boot off of it.

2.            When the A prompt appears type “debug” and press the enter button.

3.            You will see a "-".

4.            Type “o 70 2E” (include spaces) and press the Enter button.

5.            Type “o 71 ff” (include spaces) and press the Enter button.

6.            Type “q” and press the Enter button.

7.            Here are some list of common mfg passwords:
