Microsoft Dynamics GP Great Plains Licensing Overview

At this time, September 2007, Microsoft Dynamics GP latest version is 10.0.  If you are on earlier version of Microsoft Great Plains or Great Plains Dynamics/eEnterprise, in order to upgrade your current version you need registration key for GP 10.0

In the case when you are current in Microsoft Business Solutions annual enhancement program, you automatically have reg key for all the recent versions.  If you are not current in enhancement program, then in order to get new reg key, purchase additional GP modules or add user licenses, you need first to be reenrolled in GP annual enhancement program, typically it is just the matter of paying re-enrollment fee (expect up to 20% of GP software pricelist plus enhancement for the subsequent year, starting at 16% or GP price list).

1. System Manager User Licenses.  These licenses cost depends on you GP product line owned: GP Professional, GP Business Ready or GP Standard.  User count is here for concurrent users, meaning that if you have 10 user licenses, you can enter say 25 users in GP, however simultaneously only 10 users can be logged in
2. Business Portal user licenses.  Several GP modules are web enabled and hosted in Microsoft Sharepoint Business Portal application, current version is 10.0.  Among these modules are: Requisition Management (former eRequisition), Order Management (former eOrder), HR and Employee Self Service, Electronic Document Delivery.  These licenses are named (per named user) and the cost of one license is typically lower than System Manager users – around $50 per user
3. FRx user licenses.  These are concurrent user licenses.  FRx is GP financial report builder and here you typically build Balance Sheet, Profit and Loss Statement.  FRx allows you to do consolidated reporting (if you have several GP companies in one system, you can consolidate BS or P&L)
4. Customization Licenses.  If you plan to deploy Modifier with VBA, you need to purchase this module.  If you plan to contract your MS Dynamics GP partner to do custom work in Microsoft Dexterity, then you pay for partner work only, however if you plan to contract Dexterity developers to do work in-house, you have to purchase GP Dexterity module
