Age Difference in Relationships - Can They Work?

If ever the age difference comes up in conversation when relationships are concerned we often think of Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore. In fact it was this celebrity couple that paved the way for social acceptance within many of today's social circles. But despite this growing trend, we can't help but wonder, "Does the age difference matter when it comes to romance?"

Well, the answer to this question heavily relies upon the foundations of such relationships. If a couple is completely honest with each other when entering into such relationships when it comes to each others intentions then age need not be an issue. For example, if an older man is hung up on dating a younger woman to prove to himself he is still sexually appealing, or if a young women seeks older companionship purely for security, then no, such relationships are bound for an unhappy ending.

However, if couples with large age gap differences are together based on values, interests and mutual goals combined with great chemistry then there is nothing stopping such couples from succeeding.

We hear stories from men and women with a distinct desire to be in a relationship that is lopsided by age but many do not know the best places to meet people outside of their own age group or social circle. There are in fact many upsides to age differences in relationships that can have an extremely positive impact. The younger partner has the potential to extract energy and spark from the older partner. Equally as beneficial, an older lover can provide emotional stability and offer guidance with life choices. However social situations with family and friends can be challenging.

If both people are genuinely committed to the same outcome then let no one come between you, these relationships can be just as healthy and rewarding as same age couples. Any relationship requires commitment and work to sustain happiness. If your heart tells you it's right, then don't be pressured into re-thinking the relationship. There will always be someone who will have something negative to say so steel yourself against such objections because if you and your partner don't mind, then don't mind anyone else!
