In the 1800s, they started becoming popular in Europe and were usually regarded as a long couch with three cushions along with a low back or arm. Around this time, they were considered a stylish piece of furniture that were meant to be incorporated in the bedroom for a luxurious setup. Other furniture developments in the divan bed include the Sigmund Freud that was used as a treatment couch for the patients.
