We've all heard the financial advice - diversify, don't put all your eggs in one basket. 

This is not only good advice for your finances, but for selling online as well.  

One wrong move on eBay, and BAM! -your account is history.  Your years of work are down the drain and you've got to start building a customer base all over again.  What do you do?
Make sure you have accounts on the alternatives to eBay, that's what. 

The term powerseller, doesn't just apply to eBay it applies to all online auction sites and ecommerce portals on the internet. 

The customer sales and the credibility is there but the name is not, evaluate the Ebay alternatives, it is possible to become a 'stealth' powerseller- no one needs to know but you.

One important factor to consider is whether you prefer to use a retail system or an auction system. Do you sell better in auction formats, storefronts or fixed price listings?  Make that part of your decision.

Try out several of the smaller eBay competitors.  Don't forget to take your customers with you.  Keep your customer information from eBay and notify them that you are expanding to new locations to better serve them.

Don't throw in the towel right away if you don't see immediate results, give yourself some time to see sales results and make sure you work each site - don't throw your items online and hope they sell.

Evaluate your sales after several months.  What is selling, what is not?  Which sites are getting the most hits and sales?

Tweak your selling locations and keep your finger on the pulse of online sales.  Newer sites can make a splash and see a lot of traffic in the beginning.  Take advantage of this.
