Gurren Lagann is a Japanese television series that premiered on TV Tokyo in Japan. Directed by Imaishi Hiroyuki,About the Anime Gurren Lagann Articles it was animated by Gainax studios. Gurren Lagann ran for 27 episodes and won a few recognition at the Japan Media Arts Show, Tokyo International Anime Fair and the Animation Kobe. A manga derived off the show was released in 2007 and a console game for the Nintendo DS was released the same year. In 2008 and 2009 respectively, movie versions of the show were debuted in Japanese theaters and shortly made available worldwide.

 The series centers around the concept that in the future, human populations of the globe have been driven underground to exist. Creating towns to live, they are always forced to bury their colonies deeper into the ground due to continuous damage being done by ongoing tremors.

The central character, Simon, is an orphan miner, responsible for aiding the dwellers of Giha, his home, to dig further into the Earth when needed. Simon is befriended by Kamina, another stranded digger, who has endless dreams of the land above he was once able to see briefly as a teenager. After multiple dangers, Simon and Kamina band together to return to the top world only to see that the inhabitants there are constantly chased by insane creatures called Beastmen and Gunmen. Joined by other rebel people longing for freedom, they combine together to overthrow the tyrants and have an end to the perilous conditions they are being subjected to on a daily basis.
