Some basic materials needed to make artificial flowers are stem wire, wire, nylon threading, floral tape,nylon stocking and stamen. One advantage with artificial flowers is that there is no limit to the color and shape combinations that you can bring in. While natural flowers come in a fixed color and shape, artificial flowers can be made in any color or shape that you desire.

Some sophisticated flowers are made from molding clay. Clay, when still in mould able shape, is cut using some specialized design tools and then dried to get the required shape of the artificial flower. They can be used when large sized stiff looking flowers are to be made. They shall not droop or fall away. They shall remain in one posture in which you fix them. This is the advantage of clay mould artificial flowers. One material which gives a contemporary look to the flowers is glass. The glass being a transparent material gives a very shiny look to the flowers. However, they do not score much on maintenance as they are more prone to damage and replacement.
