The second thing to do is to visit restaurants that serve Japanese food. Going to a Japanese restaurant will let you exercise your skills in reading and speaking Japanese. The menu might be written in Japanese and you can test yourself if you are able to read the words in Japanese. Whenever you order your food in Japanese, you'll surely surprise the waiter or waitress. You can practice some words simple like "Thank-You" (arigatou) if you aren't able to order in Japanese.

Third, read some local Japanese newspapers. You will find free Japanese newspapers or magazines in large cities around the world where there is a Japanese community. These are directed at the local Japanese community. Even if you only know some characters in hiragana, katakana, or kanji you could possibly understand some advertisements and articles. It will be fantastic if are able to know and understand a few words and symbols and if you use them in real life situations.

Fourth, learn Japanese using your laptop. You easily can study the language and pronunciation using a computer. There are games or other methods to help you learn or you can buy Japanese language software. Programs on the iPod or iPhone can also be popular for understanding and learning Japanese.
