Now, here’s another surprise.  Did you know that the company has actually been around for 175 years?  Sure, Galt Toys was established in 1961.  However, it’s really just a division of a bigger company.  It’s the toy division of James Galt & Co. Ltd. which is one of the longest-standing companies in the world.  The company was named after its owner, James Galt, and it was founded in 1836. 

However, it didn’t start off as a toy company.  It actually started as an educational stockist in Manchester.  The company quickly achieved success and the man from Stewarton felt that they have more to give when it comes to education.  This is why back in the 1850’s, the company decided to expand to include publishing and printing.

The company made another huge move (literally) when it transferred its operations from Manchester to Cheadle.  This proved to be a start of huge things to come as they started Galt Toys four years later.

You have to wonder why an already successful company decided to risk big by opening up a new division in the already competitive toy industry.  The answer is simple.  You just need to know what the company specializes on.  They’re not specializing in toys only.  They’re actually specializing on educational toys.  Yes, they were already a lot of educational toys back then.  However, the company realized that they can use their years of experience in the education industry to inject something new.
