By the time you are in your late teens,
you have spent more than a decade in school full-time, and the thought of going on to college might just be a little more than you can bear. The beauty of gap year work is that it isn’t just you strapping on a backpack and being a vagabond for a year. You will sign up with a company that organizes gap year work, and you will work – harder than you have ever worked in your life. You will usually be given room and board, in addition to a stipend, and some time off so that you can travel at least a little bit while you are working.
This type of travel is certainly no vacation, and because of that, it might even make school a little more appealing to you when you get back. In the meantime, you will have some fabulous experiences, get a taste of freedom, and also learn the true value of money. In addition, you will meet some great people from all walks of life.
There is probably no other time in your life when you will be able to just take a year off and do what you want, so taking advantage of this time while you are young is vitally important.
