GATE Mechanical Engineering Online Preparation – Tips to Crack it

By analyzing the trends of the previous year we forecast that Engineering Mathematics, Manufacturing & Industrial Engineering, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics & Theory of Machines are most important topics and sub-topics. Candidates appearing for GATE 2017 must lay a lot of emphasis on these subjects.

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India level entrance exam for getting admission in post graduate programs like M.E., M.Tech and Ph.D. It is conducted every year by Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs at Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee). The common question that every GATE aspirant has is how to prepare for it? What is the paper pattern? From where can I get GATE material and books? The following tips will help you against all your queries:

  • Go through the latest syllabus of GATE thoroughly, and make a list of subjects that you need to concentrate on. Always keep a hard copy of syllabus with you.
  • Don’t read too many books from different publications; always read standard books. Some standard publications are Tata McGraw-Hill (TMH), Prentice-Hall of India (PHI), Wiley etc.
  • Start your online preparation prior 5-6 months of GATE examination.
  • Before starting preparation of the examination make a proper plan. Decide what you have to study? How many hours you have in a day for GATE preparation? In which areas you are weak and in which areas you are strong?
  • Solve GATE previous papers and also try to read articles or experiences written by previously qualified candidates or toppers.
  • Practice online at least 20-25 questions after completing every concept.
  • Give online GATE mock test as it will help you increase your speed.
  • Identify you weak areas based on the test results and work on them.
  • Most important, work out the numerical problems more, instead of just reading lots of concepts.
  • Join facebook groups and Google+ communities related to GATE preparation. From these groups and communities, you can get important GATE preparation material.
