The numerous hbcu scholarship awards cover those that will be attending one of the schools in their programs. There are also study abroad program options for funding.

Historically Black Colleges and Universities or HBCU scholarships are institutions granting financial aid to African American students,HBCU Scholarship Awards for Students Needing Financial Assistance Articles Hispanic Americans as well as Native Americans. This system was first established in the year 1964 and has now grown to over 105 HBCUs which include private and public schools, medical schools, community colleges and other institutions. Higher education is promoted to enable people to have better opportunities and be able to further their lives and the lives of their families.

Today, there are lots of institutions that offer HBCU scholarships. Over fifty of them provide students with a Bachelor's degree program. There are over thirty five schools have two year degree opportunities. For those pursuing the doctorate degree, there are over twenty five programs available Graduate students going for a masters degree can find over fifty opportunities for applying.

Some of the institutions that are aprt of the hbcu program include Alabama State University, Tennessee State University, Morris College, Hampton Universityand NC A and T State University. By checking their website you ca see which schools fall under this umbrella.

One example of a HBCU scholarship is via hbuconnect.com. In this scholarship, $1,000 is provided for four minority applicants who will apply to a HBCU. This can include transfer students. The deadline for submission of the application is on the first of June. Anyone who is interested to apply will have to write a 350-word essay on issues related to the black community as well as an essay on black personalities of the past and present. This is a great way for them to see your passion, writing abilities and research talents. It is open to native american indian students, african americans as well as hispanic americans.

Another program under the HBCU scholarships is the HBCU Packard Sit Abroad Scholarship. This is open to minority students who wish to engage in programs offered outside the United States. Remember that there is only one scholarship application for the different programs being offered. The programs vary and inclde the Compton Fund, the Diversity Fund, the Engineering Scholarship awards. First one needs to be accepted into the Sit Study abroad program and subsequently their scholarship form will be reviewed.
