Off late, thrust to modern education has led to mushrooming of schools pan-India, which are certainly doing brisk business by any standard. Some highlight their well-researched curriculum while others boast of their care & compassion. Some harp on their foreign affiliations whereas some talk about excellent results. Air conditioned building and classrooms, auditorium, vast playground and co-curricular area, well-stacked library, great location, foreign tours, etc are a few more baits that are dangled to draw more and more students. Seldom schools highlight their health & safety measures which are a must for the well being of the students.

So, what are those Health & Safety procedures that should be followed in the Schools?

Health Measures

Every society and country has its own set of parameters which reflect its social growth. In India, predominantly, the Health measures in schools include a clean surrounding with a pollution-free environment. A basic level of hygiene is maintained in and around schools, with ample plantation to replenish the fresh air. As per a Govt Policy, mid-day meals are also provided in govt run schools to ensure that the students are healthy enough and visit school regularly. This is basically done to curb the problem of school dropouts.

As a part of its mandate towards the health of its students, schools intermittently organise health camps in the respective schools to monitor the basic parameters of children and maintain a chart of it. Now most of the schools have a provision of a room for medical emergency where a qualified para-medic is stationed throughout the day.

Safety Measures

Safety, in the schools, is one of the most important aspects, where children spend around 6-7 hours away from their home and parents. During this period the onus lies with the schools to take care of their safety and well being. Largely schools understand their responsibility and take all possible measures to ensure every child’s safety within school premises and even while dropping them home in school buses.

To save them from external threats, the school gates are heavily guarded. Mostly private security agencies are hired to man the school gates, who let only bonafide visitors within the school, after thoroughly checking their credentials. For security purpose only, students are issued identity cards, which establishes their identity within and outside the school. Even parents and guardians  are issued permanent passes if the seek their wards custody from school premises. In this case, no unknown person can have access to unsuspecting kids. Barbed and fortified walls are erected to keep away any external threat.

A lot many steps are taken to ensure kids’ safety within the school. Open corridors generally have high walls. Provision of grill is also there to double their safety. CCTV cameras are also installed today to monitor the unmanned areas. Apart from that teachers regularly make round in the schools to restrict any untoward happenings leading to an unpleasant experience.
