HolisticJunction.com Featured School of the Week May 14, 2007: Blaine the School

Blaine the School, owned and operated by Regis Corporation, offers six campuses throughout Massachusetts to aspiring cosmetologists, estheticians, and beauty consultants. (Career training programs vary by campus.)

Boasting spacious Cosmo salon clinics, basic and advanced Cosmo classrooms, and esthetics spa clinic and classrooms, Blaine the School promises an exciting educational platform where students gain hands-on training in real-world environments.

Students seeking professional careers in manicuring will find that Blaine the School's nail technology program presents an in-depth, 150-hour course that covers training in manicures, pedicure, sculpting and nail art, silk and fiberglass wraps, business development, retail training, and other related fields of study.

If you're drawn to beauty professions like makeup artist, salon manager, hairstylist, and cosmetologist, then you'll find Blaine the School's comprehensive cosmetology program comprised of 1,000-1,500 hours*, providing  practical training in basic skin care, hair cleansing, cutting and styling methods, color and texture practices, and makeup and nail technology, intriguing. (*The 1,500-hour course is offered at the New Hampshire campus.) Additionally, students in this program, are afforded valuable instruction in business development and retail training.

Upon graduation, Blaine the School cosmetology graduates can take individual state licensing exams to become licensed cosmetologists.  According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, cosmetologist and other associated personal appearance professionals primarily work in beauty salons, barber shops, nail salons, day and resort spas, as well as other cosmetics-related facilities.  In addition, 48 percent of these professionals are self-employed, which is why it is crucial students acquire essential entrepreneurial skills in addition to practical beauty training.

As an added incentive, cosmetology students at Blaine the School may participate in its annual "Media Day" program where students create a before-and-after finished look on a selected model. Students who participate in this program are eligible to attain professional photographs that can become an initial start to building a professional portfolio.

The esthetician program at Blaine the School is all-inclusive and involves training in aromatherapy, body treatment techniques, facials, makeup, massage, waxing, business development, and retail.  Students choosing this field have the option to enroll in a variety of esthetics courses, including a 300-hour program, a 600-hour program, and a 900-hour advanced spa program.* (Career training programs vary by campus.) As an enhancement to Blaine the School's esthetics’ program, students are taught "Dermalogica" skin care treatments , which feature Dermalogica's exclusive "Face MappingSM" method, as well as special cleansers, conditioners, masques, spa body therapies and more.

Because Blaine the School is approved by the U.S. Department of Education, it participates in several financial aid programs, including Federal PELL Grants, Federal Supplemental Opportunity Grants, Federal Stafford Loans,  and Federal Parent Loans.  Applicants may also apply for private financing programs comprised of school scholarships, ACE grants, and other private loans.

HolisticJunction.com recognizes Blaine the School and applauds its standards of excellence in providing professional beauty training.
