Is NEET required for MBBS abroad in 2020?

Does a student need to appear for NEET and qualify it for getting admission abroad? What are the current rules?

As per the new rules,Is NEET required for MBBS abroad in 2020? Articles you need to qualify NEET to be eligible to sit for the Screening Test when you come back to India. You can practice in India only if you clear the Screening Test which will be NEXT in the coming years.

Percentile required to qualify NEET -

  • Unreserved/General: 50th
  • Unreserved/General-PH: 45th
  • SC/ST/OBC: 40th
  • SC/ST/OBC-PH: 40th

Once you qualify NEET, you can apply for abroad.

New rule - NEET marks are valid for a period of 3 years for admission abroad. For India, NEET result of current year only will be used. This is applicable for NEET 2018 onwards. Therefore, if you have qualified NEET in 2019, then you can take admission for MBBS abroad in 2019, 2020 and 2021 on the basis of 2019 result.

How many marks required?

The exact marks will be declared on the date of the results only. Try to score 150+ and you should be safe. Here are qualifying marks in the previous years -

In 2019 -

  • Unreserved/General: 701 to 134
  • Unreserved/General-PH: 133 to 107
  • SC/ST/OBC: 133-130
  • SC/ST/OBC-PH: 119-107

In 2018 -

  • Unreserved/General: 691 to 119
  • Unreserved/General-PH: 118 to 96
  • SC/ST/OBC: 118-107
  • SC/ST/OBC-PH: 106-96

If you don't want to come back to India, then is qualifying NEET still required?

Yes, because you won't get admission in countries for MBBS in Ukraine, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Bangladesh, Philippines, Georgia, Armenia, Kazakhstan etc if you don't show a valid NEET qualified result. Even for countries such as the UK, Australia etc., you are still required to qualify NEET.
