The ancient city of Suryapur better known as Surat, has gained importance not only for being India’s primary natural port but also for being the administrative and commercial capital of the Indian state of Gujarat during the Mughal Rule.

Almost all the schools in Surat offer commerce, arts or science as optional subjects at class X. There are a number of government schools that lack many facilities but despite that are looked upon as a boon by the poorer students who can’t afford the more expensive private schools. Goenka International School are popular with the majority of parents in Surat. "Educationam" is now a popular style of academic schooling gaining popularity in Surat.
