"We may even suffocate life itself. That humanity which is revealed in its entire intellectual splendour during the sweet and tender age of childhood should be respected with a kind of religious veneration. It is like the sun which appears at dawn or a flower just beginning to bloom. Education cannot be effective unless it helps a child to open up himself to life.” Maria Montessori

A course in Montessori Teachers Training just teaches the above among the other principles. Maria Montessori developed teaching methods in the late nineteenth century that involves imparting crucial training to the child when his mind is more adaptive to learn and comply with stuffs quite easily within the environment. Those principles not only encourage self-learning but also enable child to gain skills and good behavioural patterns through interaction and activities. People who love teaching, especially children including enthusiastic parents interested to teach may enrol for a Montessori Course.

Montessori teaching is an unorthodox method of teaching children at the infant-toddler (birth to age 2), early childhood (ages 3-6), lower basic (ages 6-9), and upperbasic (ages 9-12) stages. This kind of education techniques involves thorough understanding and guidance of the children towards their all-round development that consists of social, emotional and spiritual development. The course comprises of different features of child development and psychology, the need for music and art, nutrition, hygiene, moral education, child’s rights, methods for education that includes teaching and reading, both for the average children as well as for children with special needs and their introduction in the schools are some of the pre requisites of this course. They need equipment to understand like Magic box, geometric solids, colour tablets, sound boxes, etc., as language understanding.

The Montessori Method gives ample amount of independence and flexibility to the child to make proper use of their own observation and aptitude to learn new things. A Montessori educator functions not as a teacher but as a role model and a guide of each child’s growth and development and follows the methods of Maria Montessori. She is that ‘guide’ who would identify the uniqueness in each child and encourage independent thinking and help them grow as an individual and reach their own potential, applying various approaches with each one of them. The maximum duration of the course is 220 hours which covers a period of 10 months. However, candidates have the liberty to take the course at their own pace. Along with attending classroom lectures and completing assignments, the enrolled candidates are given the opportunity to conduct classes in local schools, where they get to implement and practice the teaching techniques in real classrooms that are taught to them during the course.

There is a dearth of well-trained Montessori teachers around the world and hence finding a position with a Montessori trained certificate will be relatively easier. After becoming a certified Montessori teacher, the teachers may apply in Montessori schools where they have the advantage of receiving a much higher pay than their non-trained counterparts. However, the salaries are usually less than those offered by local schools. Nonetheless there is a job satisfaction that is most important of everything. On the other hand, taking Montessori teaching job even with a low salary will be a sensible decision on the part of the candidates as it enables them to gain expertise while getting practical exposure to the learning environment. To gain confidence, a fresher must first try to appear for interview in Montessori schools for nursery level, though teachers with at least two years of experience can seek Montessori jobs for primary level, quite easily. The training organization conducting the certificate courses or trying through online job portals are best way to find teaching jobs.

Also, many schools only hire certified teachers who meet their basic qualification requirement as well. Generally, aspirants owning multiple skills such as diploma in dramatics, art and craft, music, dancing and theatre and also experienced ones are preferred. Good salary is offered to teachers on the basis of interview in which their intellect level and inclination towards teaching are judged that must meet the criteria of job profile. Hence a certificate in any of the Montessori courses will come handy and give an edge in this highly competitive market. With increment in years of experience, seniority and valuable skills, proficient Montessori teachers can apply for branch head, admin officer and school management profile and can be negotiable in terms of job opportunities.
