New 30-Day Writing Club and Teleclass for Academics

The Academic Ladder will offer an action-oriented 30-Day Writing Club to help grad students, professors and writers finish the semester with a sense of accomplishment.

MCLEAN, Virginia - Gina J. Hiatt, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist, dissertation and tenure coach, and founder and president of Academic Ladder, is offering a 30-Day Writing Club, along with her associate, Jayne London. Any academic looking for dissertation help or support in writing for publication will benefit from this program. The Club will include a one-hour group telephone coaching session and access to a private website where participants can log their writing progress daily, get feedback from the coaches and other members, and communicate via a message board. They will be able to see the progress of others and read their comments. This shared experience increases writing productivity. The live "coaching session" will be recorded. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss their progress and any snags or problems that they run into, and will receive some concrete actions steps that they can take to improve the quality and quantity of their writing. The 30-Day Writing Club will run from November 16 through December 15. The cost of this program, which includes online progress reporting, feedback and coaching class, is $25.00. Gina explains, “Research has shown that the most overwhelmed professors are those who believe that you can only write in long (usually agonizing and therefore avoided) sessions of writing. The same is true of grad students. Those who write small amounts daily do the same amount of other work, yet feel less overwhelmed. You can read the research about the need to write daily until you are blue in the face. For the vast majority of people, daily support is the way to get it done.”

The structure of this teleclass series will encourage daily writing and enable a new habit: “Good enough is good enough.” The action orientation of this series will enable people to make changes in their writing process as they get something important accomplished.
