New Teleclass for Academics: “Conquer the 3 P’s: Perfectionism, Procrastination and Paralysis”

The Academic Ladder will offer an action-oriented 2-session teleclass to help grad students, professors and writers with these mental blocks to completing the dissertation or publishing

MCLEAN, Virginia - Gina J. Hiatt, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist, dissertation and tenure coach, and founder and president of Academic Ladder, is offering a two-session teleclass, complete with two weeks of e-coaching, on October 30 and November 13, 2006. The first class will explore the ways that perfectionism leads to procrastination, and provide action steps to conquer these issues. Participants will have access to a password-protected web page, a very popular feature that allows them to post their daily progress in accomplishing their own writing, along with questions and comments. They will be able to see the progress of others and read their comments. This shared experience increases writing productivity and reduces perfectionism and procrastination. The second class will be a live "coaching session" for all participants. They will have the opportunity to discuss their progress and any snags or problems that they ran into while writing their dissertation or articles during the course of the week. The cost of the two classes is $24.95. Gina explains, “Perfectionists strive for impossibly high goals. They worry about that invisible audience who will find fault with their work. This makes the creative process so unpleasant that they put it off until tomorrow. Day after day of procrastination eventually becomes paralysis, where the task seems too overwhelming, so nothing gets done.”

The structure of this teleclass series will encourage daily writing and enable a new habit “good enough is good enough.” The activity orientation of this series will enable people to make changes as they get something important accomplished.
