Now is the Time for Gap Year Work

Now that you are out of school and thinking about, or being forced into, going to college, there is one opportunity that you may not have thought of – gap year work. This is a supervised program, whereby you work in another country and get paid. In return, you get to travel and have experiences that you would never have at home.

If this sounds too good to be true, it isn’t. Hundreds of thousands of young people have done this over the past few years, using companies that are specially designed to place you in a job of your choosing in a country that interests you. Your gap year work won’t be easy, and you may work some long and hard hours, but you will also be given time off as well, so that you can spend some of the money that you are making and see the country in which you are living.

Your parents may think that this is an easy way out of going to college, but the whole idea of gap year work is that you come back from your year off, ready to go to school, and with a clearer idea of what you want to study. Many students who take a gap year off find that they have in interest in a subject that they never even knew existed.

Because these programs are organized and supervised by companies in your home country, you will be well taken care of and your parents don’t need to worry. Although you will need a bit of money to get you started, you will be earning while you are abroad, and you will have appropriate food and housing. But more than that, you will have the time of your life, and when you are done.
