There is no one best way to write the college entrance essay. Following are some tips to help you do your best.

1.  It is very important to answer the essay question. No matter what you write about or how well you write, if you do not answer the question then the essay is not complete.

2.  The essay that you write should be  your own original work.

3.  It is also important that you be yourself. Trying to be someone you are not will not work and the essay will show this. If you get to choose the topic then choose one that interests you. Do not write about things that you have very little knowledge of.

4.  Be careful in the words you use. Do not use big words thinking this will help make a better essay. Only use big words if they fit into the content of the essay.

5.  College admissions officers usually only have one to two minutes to read each essay so make sure that your introduction catches their attention rapidly. Spend the majority of your time writing the introduction so that can be sure to grab their attention.

 6.  Make sure that your essay flows smoothly. You want the transition from paragraph to paragraph to flow easily. If all of a sudden you change topics you will leave the reader confused and not able to understand your essay. Plus the body of your essay should relate back to the introduction.

 7.  Once you have written your essay and proofread it yourself ask someone else to recheck it. They can let you know how they feel about your essay along with finding any spelling errors you may have missed.

 8.  Revise your essay as many times as needed. You are only given a certain amount of words to use and you want to use them wisely. If there are things in the essay that do not relate to the introduction remove them. Try reading it out loud to see if it flows smoothly.

Do these things over and over again until you have your essay just the way you want it to read.
