With numerous high school students graduating soon it is time to contemplate college. For many of those graduates this means making preparations for the dorm life on campus. Bedding is the most important. A students dorm bed is where they will spend most of their time when not in class or at work. Most dorm beds are a different size than a standard bed, look for bedding listed as "Twin XL". Bring at least two pillows, because many dorms have gone away from having a headboard, so the extra pillow will be useful when getting in a comfortable reading position. Also, bring a throw blanket for those nights where the dorm might get a little chilly.
To maintain a homey feeling in the dorm some decoration is essential. Pictures from home, a poster or two and a calendar will make the room truly feel more like home. Most dorms have a policy about putting holes in the wall so use poster tack to hang up your stuff. Many students choose their favorite musician to hang a poster of, but any topic will do. Blank walls do not assist with superior study times.
Some small collapsible bins will help keep the space organized particularly when it comes to pens. A small locking safe is ideal for keeping cash and credit cards in the room. Some dorms provide a refrigerator but many modern dorms have a kitchenette which will allow for small appliances, check with the dorm before buying any appliances. Some fun magnets will look great on the fridge and will be useful for leaving a note to a roommate. A microwave will be a necessity, particularly for late night snacking.
Every college student has to bring along their electronics, they are virtually a requirement now. A laptop with Wi-Fi is a necessity along with a mobile music player. Some dorms have cable included so a small television will be necessary. Most campuses have printing capabilities so having a printer in a dorm is not critical. For those nights when studying is a challenge, a game or two will help reboot the mind. Living in a dorm is about experiencing all that college life has to present. Become involved with a group or two on campus and make friends with the roommate. Don't neglect to go to class, and most importantly, enjoy.
