On the other hand,Transfer of engineering students ruled out ‎ Articles the Bengal Engineering and Science University (Besu) and Jadavpur University (JU) viewed in their emergency meeting that the notification would only attract bottom-rung students, compromising with the standards of the institutes.

“The department will not change the order. If Besu or JU want to propose something, they could, but till date, we have not received any proposals from them in writing,” Mr Basu said. “This was the first time that e-counselling was initiated and the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board has ably conducted it. The number of seats vacant in the state is far less than in other states,” the minister added.

The order issued by the technical education department on July 31 stated that the institutes can advertise for vacant seats afresh on the basis of an order of merit.

However, the order categorically excluded the eligibility for application of those students already admitted. This has reportedly triggered resentment at Besu and JU as the order makes room only for the academically poor students eligible to apply.

After the e-counselling for admission to engineering and technology institutes in the state got over on August 3, there were around 10,000 seats vacant. The JU has 115 seats and Besu has 55 seats vacant after the completion of the third round of counselling.
