York engineering company in hat-trick of award wins

YORK engineering company Omnicom Engineering has won Innovation of the Year at the National Rail Awards, held by RAIL Magazine.

The award is a hat-trick for the business after it has also won awards at the Network Rail Partnership Awards and the Railway Industry Innovation Awards in the last few months.

The award was won for Omnicom's OmniVision product,York engineering company in hat-trick of award wins Articles which combines high-resolution cameras and pattern recognition software to automate the detection of track defects. It was won in partnership with Network Rail, which implemented the system.

   Stirling Kimkeran, chief executive of Omnicom, which is also shortlisted for Large Business Of The Year in The Press Business Awards 2012, said: "I'm proud to be associated with an award-winning team that continually strives to deliver solutions and products that have enabled the railway to improve efficiency and safety for the rail industry.

Gary Walsh, head of network solutions at Network Rail said: “This project represents a step change in how Network Rail inspects and manages its key track assets. It delivers a safe, repetitive and efficient method for inspecting the track."
