Klaverjassen players need to have a dealer, who deals cards to the players and a person who chooses trumps, usually it is the player sitting to the left of the dealer. Trumps can be chosen in two different ways:

·         By a free choice of the player, who chooses any card he or she likes

·         By a choice of the player after he or she sees his or her cards

·         Randomly, by shuffling a pack of cards and picking the top card

The names for them obviously originated from the cities where these variations became popular.
