New Orleans Family Vacation

A New Orleans family vacation could include so many great fun family adventures. Unfortunately most people think of the festivities around Mardi Gras as the only ones available in the Big Easy. From the many city parks and museums to the famous French Quarter, there are many recreational opportunities for both young and old.

One of these fabulous places for family fun is the French Quarter. Here you can visit one of the many flea markets. It is also home to many amazing shops such as candy stores, toy shops, and Jackson Square and can enjoy one of several walking tours of the city.

Your New Orleans family vacation could also include the many city parks. One of these is located in New Orleans city center and includes botanical gardens, an art museum and sculpture garden, as well as one of the largest collections of old oak trees in the city. Children can enjoy an amazing playground, Storyland, and a carousel as well as Audubon Park where you can enjoy picnics together, take walks around the many oak trees and lagoons, and enjoy the pool during the Summer months.

There are also many museums that you can enjoy with your children. These include the Louisiana Children's Museum where you and your children can enjoy at least 100 interactive exhibits. There are also book readings and special art projects that are different each day. Nearby in the Warehouse Art District, is the WWII Museum where you can see the view the history of the many amphibious invasions by American troops during the war. You can see many fighter planes and tanks as well as view seasonal movies on a 4-D theater screen.

Not only are there several parks and museums, but also there is a zoo and aquarium. The Audubon Aquarium of the Americas is home to around 15,000 animals and is located on the Mississippi River's waterfront. Here you can enjoy the Caribbean Reef tunnel, see a white alligator, observe a 400,000 gallon exhibit featuring the animals found in the Gulf of Mexico. You can also view the South American anaconda snakes and poisonous frogs as you explore the swamp and jungle exhibits.
