For those who are new to fishing, getting a hang of things could take a while.  While choosing your new rod, there are no set ideas that you should buy this alone or that only.  However it would do a lot of good to keep in mind a few tips to go about it.  You could easily be overwhelmed by the number of options available while you are shopping for your rod in the stores.  To help you, here are a few of tips that will be handy while buying your fishing rod.

Go In For Quality

It would do you good to find out which company or manufacturer produces quality rods before you finalize which rod you are going to buy.  As an angler myself, I would always choose between Quantum or Berkley as they make fishing rods with good quality.  You need not go in for anything expensive and could get a good for just fifty dollars.  Both Quantum and Berkley produce rods below $50 dollars.  Quality should be your watch word.

A Rod For Every Fish      

Broadly, the rods can be divided into five categories depending on their use and they are – Ultra light, light, medium, medium to heavy, and heavy.  Lets us see what each one can do.   Ultra light rods can be used when fishing in streams and searching for pan fishes, e.g. crappie.  Light rods would be useful for small rivers and pan fishing too.  When you want to go in for larger fish, then your choice should be medium action rods.  You can be sure to catch catfish, Walleye, etc by sitting on banks and line trolling.  For larger catfishes from the shores and trolling, choose medium heavy rods.  The heavy action rods are for experienced anglers in salt waters and looking for large fish and trolling.  Though these are not set standards, knowing about these will help you to chose and fish effectively.

Now everything is available on the web with good offers.  It is an instinct to buy from the internet as it saves you time.   You may also want to order the fishing rod from the web.  But before ordering, you should go to the store to check out the fishing rod you intend to buy.  If I were you, I would never order a rod which I have not held in my hand at a store.  Choose the model and check on the web.
