Born in the Canadian city of Victoria, British Columbia on December 2nd, 1978, Nelly Kim Furtado is a singer, songwriter, record producer and instrumentalist.
Her father is Antonio Jose Furtado and her mother is Maria Manuela. They were born in Sao Miguel Island and immigrated to Canada in the late 1960’s.
Nelly Furtado was named after Nellie Kim, the Soviet gymnast.
She gained fame in the year 2000 when her debut album “Whoa Nelly” was released.
Needless to say, the album was a stupendous hit and five million copies were sold by August 2006.
