There are different materials that can make up a brush. The red sable is used to create a highly sought after utensil. To think, this often expensive prize, is made from the hair of a weasel. This particular brush is often used by master painters. The cost is often not even a consideration to the artists because the quality is so superior.

The kolinsky sable is hair from the tail of a Siberian mink. This is more expensive because of the rarity and the incredibly fine point that it can make. It is also impressive because the snap of the brush from the canvas and back to its original pointed shape.

Artists are moving to the computer to produce modern art. There will always be a need for non-computer mediums like clay and paint. Some are using a combination of computer and regular mediums to produce some really great looking art. Some techniques involve photographing an artwork digitally and then converting it and manipulating it to add computer generated effects.

Comic book artists have been especially affected by computer art. It is now possible to produce an entire comic book without using a pencil. Many artists believe in the old methods because they are able to sell the original pencil and paper drawings as well as the inked drawings. In this field it has become common to specify that computer art is not wanted.

In photography classes in college many instructors are moving to digital only. Currently, several instructors still teach dark room techniques but many are moving away from the hands on instruction. The costs are becoming prohibitive in using the old dark room developing techniques. Camera manufacturers have already begun to discontinue all of the older cameras.

Art can be created with any number of different art materials. Art changes the way that people think and act. It is amazing to think that the stroke of a brush can change the world. Technology will continue to advance, but art techniques will remain mostly unchanged.
