NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Gabriela Segura in Illumination: An Exhibition of Fine Art Photography. The exhibition opens October 20, 2017 and runs through November 9, 2017 with an opening reception on Thursday, October 26 from 6-8 pm.
Romantic and refined, the work of Gabriela Segura updates the tradition of using photography as a means of transforming reality. Segura photographs the world in rich color and soft focus. She explains that her driving inspiration is the realization that "the world is full of wonders."
To that end, Segura does not limit her subject matter to a single area. She photographs nature in thrilling close-up: flower blossoms, birds' wings, tree leaves, everything depicted to best show off the delicate textures and rich colors. She portrays landscapes as new worlds bursting with promise, and manmade spaces as full of history, with a thousand open-ended narratives possible within the frame. She even delves into abstracts using shadow, color, and line in unexpected places.
Segura was born in San Jose, Costa Rica.
