What To Look for In A TV Mount

Flat screen TVs are the norm now, and the typical setup with the TV on top of the desk or entertainment center just looks bulky. A TV wall mount allows you to set that same TV up on the wall, saving space and highlighting your flat screen TV. The key here is that the person buying gets what they need, not what they think they are looking for. There is a tendency to overemphasize certain features or try to get something that isn't needed in practical day to day usage. Let's talk about what these differences are and how each type of TV wall mount is unique. 
Fixed TV wall mounts are your typical type of mount, that holds the TV up on the wall in a fixed position. This type of TV mount is the sleekest and save the most space. They hug the wall and almost become invisible behind your TV, it just looks like your TV is hung up like a digital painting. It is a good choice because it is the cheapest type of mount and once it is set up, there is nothing left to do but enjoy it. The fixed TV mount can also come in super slim or low profile styles, lessening the space between your TV and wall even more. The only problem is the cables can be hard to manage sometimes and it can require two people to adjust the TV on the mount. 
Tilt TV mounts are the same as fixed mounts but they can tilt up or down, usually about 15 degrees. This allows you to change the viewing angle if you are laying down or there is a glare from the sun. The tilt allows for a more flexible viewing angle but also allows easier access to the back of the TV to mess with the cables when that is necessary. This also puts it further away from the wall though, so it doesn't appear as sleek as the fixed TV mount. Tilt TV mounts are a good choice for video gamers or people with children who sit on the floor in front of the TV. The extra functionality comes with a higher price but for some the tilt is worth it.
Cantilever or swing arm TV mounts are a hybrid of the tilt and something else, they allow for tilting and they can move side to side, some up to 180 degrees. The full motion it provides is excellent for putting a TV in an area between conjoined kitchen and living room spaces. You can turn it towards the kitchen when you are cooking and then back to the living room when you sit and watch the football game, for example. It is almost like an arm coming out of the wall holding your TV securely while you tilt up and down or move side to side, getting the best viewing angle for everyone. The full motion comes at a premium price though, these are the most expensive type of TV mount.
All these different types of mounts come with varying quality depending on the brand, and you must choose the correct size for your TV, there is usually 3 sizes. The easiest one to setup is certainly the fixed mount, but the extra motion of the other mounts is nice if you are a heavy TV user. Be sure to get a quality, strong titanium or steel TV mount that will support the weight of your TV and the force of it being moved around or touched.
