Hygiene is extremely important. Germs that cause many illnesses can be spread in washrooms. That is why hand washing is crucial. The oldest type of hand dryer is the manual. They came into use about because of increasing concerns about hygiene. Manual Hand dryers are really simple to use. All one has to do is press a button and put his or her hands underneath the dryer. The person rubs his or her hands underneath the dryer until the hands are dry. The dryer usually shuts off automatically.

The newest type of hand dryer is the automatic. They also came into use because of the increasing concerns about hygiene. Automatic hand dryers are even simpler to use than the manual. There is no button to press, all a person has to do is place his or her hands underneath the dryer and rub them together until they are dry. Automatic hand dryers are more hygienic than the manual ones because since there is no button to press, there are less germs spread. They are more efficient because they are so simple to use.

Both manual are automatic hand dryers are better than paper towels. Paper towels can not only spread germs, but are not environmentally friendly. It takes cutting down of trees to make paper towels and also people are likely to throw paper towels on the floor and ground. This makes it even more not so good for the environment.
Washroom Environments: Then and Now
Washroom environments have changed over the years for the better. They are a lot more hygienic because janitors most likely spend more time cleaning them since people are more aware of how easily communicable diseases can be spread. They are also more hygienic because most washrooms now have seat covers, which was less common in the past. Washroom environments today are also more nicer. Some of the washrooms today are nicely decorated and have chairs and couches making them more like actual "restrooms". That was not likely 20-30 years ago. Paper towels were much more common 20-30 years ago, now they are almost obsolete because of hand dryers. The hygiene and appearance of washrooms have definitely taken a turn for the better.
