The balloting for this year’s national day tickets has just begun. This 2016,5 must-go events for Singapore’s 51st National Day Articles expect a bigger celebration as a new theme - Building our Singapore of tomorrow, is announced. After a decade of buoyant celebrations at the Marina Bay floating platform, the National Day Parade (NDP) is coming home to the National Stadium. This year, the National Stadium at Sports Hub will accommodate about 275,000 Singaporeans, more than twice the number of spectators in previous years! Besides NDP16, we are first to bring you a hit parade of events that celebrates our nation’s birthday!

 

1. Fly high on the Singapore Flyer

Treat yourself to displays of fiery pyrotechnic birthday flames illuminating the Singapore skyline from 165 meters above ground. National day presents an opportune moment to feast your senses as you ride on the 360 degree Singapore Flyer observation wheel. Not only would your eyes enjoy the festive sights, you can also delight your olfactory and gustatory senses in dining and drinking to Singapore’s golden years! Get to 30 Raffles Avenue or take a 5-minute walk from the Promenade Station (Circle Line, CC4) to catch a ride on the Singapore Flyer this August 9.

2. Visit the iconic Istana

 Our very own nation’s Presidential palace is the place to discover. In celebration of National Day, Istana Open House opens its gate to the public at Orchard Road. Tour the historic magnificence of the Istana in guided nature walks and building tours through the afternoon for just $2 for Singaporeans and $4 for non-Singaporeans. What is best is that all proceeds will be donated to charity. What better way is there to show your appreciation for your nation?

3. Family Weekends at National Gallery

 Explore Singapore with your little ones through art at the National Gallery’s Keppel Centre for Art Education. What better way to enculturate your children about Singapore through art on the Sunday leading up to the Singapore’s birthday than to visit the National Gallery? Free admission for all, Family Weekends Programmes are open from 11am right through to 6pm.

 4. Children and Families Sports Festival

 A Singapore that plays together stays together. Bond with your family through sportastic events at a Sports Centre near you! Dispersed all over Singapore’s heartlands, 15 ActiveSG Sports Centres are organising athletic activities for families ranging from teaching babies the baby steps towards    movement skills, to fun old-school recreational games for the elderly. Get your game on and warm up for the national day during the weekends (30 – 31 July and 6 – 7 August) leading up to Singapore’s birthday.

 5. One Nation Run 2016

 If standing up for Singapore is not enough for you, go a step further and run for Singapore in One Nation Run 2016! Jointly organized by J’Kids Amusement and Marina Barrage, this event gathers Singaporeans in a fun run that celebrates Singapore’s running as a nation for 51 years. Held at the Marina Barrage, the run comprises a 5km casual family run (Jalan Jalan), Mass Kite Flying (Layang Layang) and a carnival (Tikam Tikam) where old-school favourites of Chapteh and Five stones can be relived. Witness Singapore hitting a home run as a record-breaking number of runners run with a Singapore flag. Come on down to the Marina Barrage and run with your nation as one!
