It is important to plan for the pain so that one can remain calm during the child birth. There are different reasons which cause pain during the labor-
  • Contractions of the uterus muscles which creates pressure on the cervix
  • The pain during these contractions are felt in the abdomen , back and some even have it in the thigh
  • Pain is also caused because the baby’s head puts pressure on the bladder and the birth canal and vagina gets stretched
The severity of pain during labor varies in each woman. Some feel the cramps like what they experience during their periods, some experience severe pressure and few get cramps which come during diarrhea.

To deal with the pain during childbirth, it is not advisable to wait till the last day rather it is wise to accept the fact that each woman gets labor pain and preparation should start from the beginning of pregnancy.
  • With the doctor’s permission, the pregnant ladies can do some light exercises regularly which will help in strengthening the muscles and it becomes easy to handle the labor stress.
  • It is better to attend the childbirth classes and your partner should also be there. These classes help the persons to look at the various techniques which will help then to handle the pain during the labor in a better way.
Medications can be used to deal the pain during childbirth.
  • Analgesics are given using intravenous method and these affect the entire body.
  • Regional anesthesia- This method is used to make some specific parts of the body numb and is used for the vaginal and cesarean child delivery both.
  • Tranquilizers- These medicines are not helpful in relieving pain but these are helpful for the pregnant women who feel very worried and anxious about the pain during the natural child birth.

Any kind of medicines used has affect on the mother and baby. Some make the women drowsy and they feel nausea. After using tranquilizers it becomes difficult for the women to remember the birth process so one should always discuss with the doctor the various risks involved with the medicines before using them.
