A fitness boot camp is a fast and effective means of losing weight and getting on track with your exercise goals. Here we look at an increasingly popular way to get into shape.

When most people think of boot camp the first thing that often comes to mind is the basic training that those entering any branch of the military must go through. But that is not the only type of boot camp. Fitness boot camps are becoming more popular all of the time. These exercise camps offer challenging and efficient workouts that lead to success. Many are offered at a low price.

A fitness camp of this nature is a kind of outdoor group exercise class that combines body weight exercises and traditional callisthenic exercises with strength training as well as interval training. There are different types of these camps and many are similar to the military style in that they push those who participant to work as hard as they possibly can.

While a fitness camp of this type is very disciplined it may be right for some individuals but not for others. That is for every person to decide for themselves once they have enough information at their disposal.

Many of these camps are offered in the summer months and may last anywhere from four to eight weeks. These instructors offer encouragement and support as opposed to acting like drill sergeants who use intimidation with their participants.

When looking for a fitness camp that is well suited to you choose one that has a small number of participants. For example, a camp that has six to 10 people is better than one that has a higher number of participants because the opportunity for more attention from the instructors is there. Look for one that takes place in an outdoor space that is open and public (such as a park).

Your orientation will consist of filling out appropriate paperwork, learning about the rules of the class and reviewing the guidelines as they pertain to safety. If you have not had a basic fitness assessment then you will have it at your orientation.

Every class at the camp will begin with warm up exercises which should last in the area of 10 minutes. Each workout will last 30 to 40 minutes and will be composed of an assortment of different exercises.

Cool downs and stretching will end all of your sessions. There will be a fitness retest when the camp draws to a close to determine how much you have improved since the start of the camp.
