It helps us to take a break from our daily schedules and de-stress ourselves. But eating out is easier said than done,Hotel reservations at your fingertips Articles especially in big metro cities of Mumbai, Bangalore etc. where finding a restaurant and to get reservations for the restaurant becomes a dilemma. This problem is most pronounced on weekends when we spend at least a minimum of 15 minutes to get a table to sit. So, patrons end up wasting a lot of precious time and sometimes this waiting frustration becomes a put off for them to visit the same place again.

Online restaurant booking or restaurant reservation system addresses this very same and perennial problem. This concept first originated in the Silicon Valley where websites like OpenTable, BookaTable started taking reservation requests online for a chain of partnered restaurants. Now because of the massive popularity of this service, they have now expanded to multiple countries.

Now many of the online restaurants booking websites also have released their own mobile apps as well. This makes it easier and convenient for the customers to login and search for their favorite places and makes table reservations. The services of this restaurant reservation system don’t end at simply booking tables.  Along with table reservations these portals give or aim to give a one stop shop for the dining needs of the users.

Restaurant reviews and promotion of restaurant deals are a few of the ancillary services done by these websites.  Restaurant are reviewed and rated on certain pre-defined parameters and this gives the customers a clearer picture about the restaurant. The restaurants are reviews on parameters like food, ambience, service etc. They also let you know the average cost per meal.  The users also get to know about the latest discounts on offer, through which they can save. Many of the websites also feature a blog where the users can find useful information regarding latest happenings in the city, new restaurants, exotic recipes etc.

This platform also has a lot of goodies on offer to restaurants as well. Restaurants get to reach a wide base of customers. Along with a steady stream of customers, most of the websites give them an interface where they get to track the number of people walking in and also see how their competitors are faring with respect to people walking in and turnover. Since the tables get pre-reserved, restaurants also have to devote lesser resources and efforts to manage the waiting patrons if they are pre- reserved.

So, overall this is a win-win situation for both the patrons and the restaurants. We can now find a host of websites in India offering a similar service. This service is still in the nascent stages in India and it has a lot of potential to evolve into much bigger and a profitable industry.
