Golden Monkey Black Tea is grown in the Fujian province in China. Yunnan is a region known for producing excellent black tea with golden buds.

Ten Ren's Organic Golden Monkey Black Tea has a high concentration of these golden buds. The USDA has certified that this tea has been grown with organic farming methods with no chemcial pesticides used in cultivation. The brewed tea has a reddish brown hue with a sugary aroma with floral and roasted undertones. It is hand-processed each spring with careful plucking of only one leaf and one bud. The name comes from its unique appearance: the leaves resemble monkey paws.

Only certain tea plant varietals can produce golden colored tip leaves. The golden color emerges during processing after an accurate withering (moisture drying of the leaves). Few areas in Fujian contain this type of tea plants. Other areas known to have golden tipped varietals are Yunnan and Hunan provinces in China,Organic Golden Monkey Black Tea Articles and Assam in India.

Golden Monkey is in season during the spring (April-May). Since it is a heavily oxidized (dark) tea, it maintains its flavor well over the months. The taste is smooth with sweet undertones with a clean and refreshing aftertaste.

Health Benefits

Being a fully oxidised–or fermented–black tea, it does not have the same level of antioxidants that our White and Green teas have, however it is still a good source of these and so will also help reduce the risk of cancers and lessen the affects of aging. Black teas such as our Fengqing black tea also are considered to help prevent tooth decay and help lower your cholesterol levels.
