Originally this organic green tea was called Gua Zi Pian or “sunflower seed” because of its resemblance to the popular tea house snack. Over the years, the name has been shortened to Gua Pian causing some to mistakenly call this tea “melon seed.” By either name, this is a special tea for its harvesting and processing techniques.

The floral taste and aftertaste of a strong cup of Lu An Gua Pian is a reminiscence of Tie Guan Yin tea. The pleasant floral sweetness of this tea gradually fills your mouth. Very refreshing and smooth.

Shape

Unlike other premium quality Chinse green teas, Lu An Gua Pian is made only using the tea leaves and no buds at all (similar to Japanese green tea). The emerald-green dried tea leaves are long and narrow.

Preparation

Liu An Gua Pian is suited to preparation using traditional methods for green teas. Allow about one teaspoon of leaves per person and infuse 1-2 minutes with water no hotter than 70C (158F). Liu An Gua Pian may be re-steeped several times.

The high anti-oxidant content in this tea is important in the lowering of cholesterol levels, anti-obesity properties, anti-inflammatory agents.

Being made only from mature leaves, that have had more time to accumulate and form nutrients, plus it being made only from leaves, without any stems, Liu'an Guapian reportedly has the highest nutritional level amongst all green teas.
