Do It Yourself with Organic Pest Control

When searching for different methods of pest control, organic methods may be the most effective and safe solution. They do not cost much and are safe for humans and pets in most cases.

Believe it or not, but you do not have to use dangerous insecticides when you are trying to take care of the pests in your home, garden, and lawn. There are many pest control organic solutions at your disposal that you can prepare by yourself that can be just as effective. Perhaps the best thing about using these organic pesticides is that they will only kill off the harmful organisms while leaving the beneficial ones unharmed. This article will cover several different methods of organic insect control that can target the specific insect you are trying to get rid of.

If you have a garden, then caterpillars can be a severe annoyance, especially when they are eating your crops. However, before you turn to your tried and true chemical insecticide, try an all natural approach to pest control. Organic solutions include a garlic and red pepper spray that is highly effective. To prepare this concoction, chop up an unpeeled onion and an unpeeled head of garlic. Place these in a saucepan along with a teaspoon of red pepper and 3 pints of water. Cook for about 20 minutes and allow it to cool. It is now ready to be sprayed on any caterpillars you find in your garden.

Although they are not insects, rabbits are another problem you may run into when you are planting a garden. While you can use organic pesticides such as the red pepper spray, you may simply want to place a wire fence around the perimeter of your garden. In addition, you can sprinkle pepper powder, or bath powder with talcum around your plants too as this makes an excellent deterrent.

When you are trying find organic insect control methods, you have many different options to choose from no matter what type of pest you are dealing with. For example, if you have spider mites, you can get rid of them by planting oil of geranium near your plants. This also is an effective way of keeping cabbage worms away from your grapes and corn. Horseradish can deter potato bugs and lavender will get rid of mice, moths, and ticks while attracting beautiful butterflies to your garden.

You can prevent a whole host of pests such as mice, fleas, and ants by simply planting mint in your lawn or garden. The only problem is that it can spread quickly so you will have to work in order to keep it contained. A great pest control organic solution to keeping slugs and snails at bay is to spray wormwood around your garden. It can easily be prepared on your own by simply simmering wormwood leaves in 3 pints of water, straining it, and then allowing it to cool off. You can even make it stronger by adding soap if you wish.
