Hair loss, thinning of hair and balding are some of the common hair problems. Hair loss is treated in Ayurveda with a permutation of diet, herbs, oil rub, meditation, aromatherapy, breathing and yoga.

Ayurveda, said to be the oldest form of medicine, is used to treat several disorders from baldness to osteoporosis. Its principles condition that a body's health depends on the 3 doshas: "Pitta," "Vata" and "Kapha. Air & earth increases vata and mitigates increased pitta and kapha. It cleans the blood and causes healing of ulcers.

To pacify pitta, rub some coconut oil on your scalp and on the soles of your feet at bedtime. Massage greatly improves the blood circulation, thus increasing the health of the hair and also scalp.

Massage your scalp with brahmi oil or bhringaraj oil at bedtime to help prevent hair loss. Daily massaging the scalp for 5-10 minutes greatly stimulates the circulation. This is very essential for healthy growth of your hair. Massage the hair with vitamin E oil. This also may prevent or slow down the hair loss.

In Ayurveda, a disease is viewed as a state of difference in one or more of a person’s doshas.

A special Ayurvedic readiness made from Bhringraj (Eclipta elba), Amala, corals, iron and black sesame seeds are very helpful, and even prevent the graying of hair.

Massage Brahmi or Bhringaraj oil into the scalp for at least 5 minutes daily to advance circulation. It nourishes the hair and helps resistance to stress as well.

Rub coconut oil on your scalp and the soles of your feet every night. The rubbing motion stimulates blood circulation, which is especially good for the hair follicles. Using juice of green coriander leaves on the head is also good.

Try vitamin E oil on the hair. It also strengthens the hair follicles and reduces hair loss. Formulate a paste of cooked Urad dal (black beans) and fenugreek (methi) and rinse your hair with this paste 3-4 times a week.

A blend of lettuce and spinach juice is good to drink to encourage hair growth. The juice of alfalfa combined with that of carrot, and lettuce juice is also good to take.

In addition to head message, you can have handful of sesame seeds every morning. Taking Yogurt is also useful unless you are allergic to milk.
