There are many ways to have breast augmentation. Incision location, implant position, and implant size all require careful consideration.

Women are choosing to have breast augmentation done for a variety of reasons. Sometimes she fees that her natural assets are inferior to what they could be if she had them surgically enhanced. Other times it is a matter of decreased perkiness or fullness after pregnancy.

Still other ladies face the unfortunate reality of having to have a partial or full mastectomy that has left them both physically and emotionally scarred. Yet another type of lady may think that the shape and contour is wrong or that she lacks symmetry. Whether any of these are the case or none of them does not matter. Whatever the reason there is a surgical option to enlarge and enhance the bust.

Basically breast augmentation consists of a surgeon making an incision somewhere near the mammary tissue of the chest and then inserting an implant behind the tissue to increase the size and improve the shape. Depending on the type of procedure they may be above or below the muscle and the incision may be anywhere from along the edge of the nipple to under the armpit.

Although the surgery is the surgeon’s number one job he is also there to educate and inform women about breast augmentation. He consults with them and determines from this discussion what is the most suitable treatment for their desires and then walks them through what will transpire during the actual procedure and recovery. He will determine what incision location is most amenable to her needs and help her select an implant size.

Selecting an implant size for breast augmentation has become increasingly about looking for something that will be most natural. This means there has been a shying away from the oversize DD implants of the past and a shift toward something that is suitable to body size and composition. For most people this means a subtle increase that will still have dramatic results.

The goal of the modern breast augmentation is to create a job that is indistinguishable from the real thing. To this end surgeons have been working toward more and more realistic implant materials and new procedures to reduce scarring and increase realism.

For women with a healthy amount of body fat they can have their implants in front of the muscle of the chest because the body will naturally blend the margins. Those ladies with very low body fat are often advised to have their implants below the muscle so as to smooth the transition from chest to bust.

All of these considerations are not to be taken lightly. They are serious medical decisions with life changing results. It is worth thinking about what you may prefer but it is absolutely crucial to have the conversation with the doctor. He will be happy to assist in all the decisions and will have the soundest medical advice.
