How much facts do you know about coconut oil? It's bad for your health? Of course not! It benefits your health tremendously. But it can hurt you a little bit if you don't know how to use it in the most beneficial way. Let me show you.

Coconut oil provides more health benefits any other vegetable oils you have ever used:

  • It protects you against various species of bacteria,Coconut Oil Facts Articles viruses, fungi and other harmful microbes.

  • It softens your stool and loosens your bowel so you won't suffer from constipation.

  • It burns your fat and helps you lose weight with its thermogenic effect.

  • It prevents you from getting colon, breast and other types of cancers.

  • It fights acne.

  • It locks the protein in your hair so your hair won't lose protein so easily, thus keeping it silky and dazzling with glow.

  • It gets rid of dandruff for you.

I can literally go on and on with the list of how the oil from coconut benefits you which are all the facts. However, the fact that coconut oil may cause some side effects is also true. So far, there are two side effects I can identify.

One is, it can trigger diarrhea-like symptoms on you. But that only occurs when you eat too much of it in one sitting especially when you're just getting started with it. To avoid such side effect, increase your intake of coconut oil progressively until your body is accustomed to greater amount.

Another side effect is that because it can draw toxins up to the surface of your skin when you apply it to your skin, it may cause what it seems like an acne breakout. In fact, this is just coconut oil's toxin-purging effect. Again, don't put too much on your skin or the breakout can freak you out.

In short, the facts are, coconut oil benefits you, but it can also cause some problems for you if you don't know about its so-called side effects.

Another fact I want you to know is that coconut oil actually comes in the form of various types: virgin, RBD (refined, bleached and deodorized), fractionated and hydrogenated.

Needless to say, virgin type bears the best quality among its family due to its cold-pressing extraction method. Unlike olive oil, extra-virgin coconut oil means exactly the same as its virgin counterpart. No difference.

RBD oil is another type produced for those who dislike the natural coconut flavor but still want to reap the health and nutritional benefits of coconut oil. When buying this type of refined oil, make sure it comes as pure without hydrogenation because hydrogenation can produce trans fatty acid that can inflict damage on your health very badly.

As just mentioned about hydrogenation, you shouldn't buy any hydrogenated oil for your consumption or skin care. It'll harm your health and clog your pores. Again, go with virgin coconut oil instead if you want better health and skin.

As for fractionated type, it's mainly used in beauty, skin care and massage industry. But I use virgin oil for all purposes - be it skin care, beauty, massaging, dieting, etc because virgin coconut oil contains the most nutrients in its most natural form. But of course, it costs the highest too. Just a few bucks more for better health, I'm sure you can afford.
