Diabetes Causes

In general, diabetes affects the body's ability to use blood sugar for energy, so it stays in the blood, and often leads to blindness, heart and blood vessel disease, strokes, kidney failure, amputations, and nerve damage. If not diagnosed and treated with insulin, a person can lapse into a life-threatening diabetic coma. Thus, it is very important to prevent diabetes. In many cases diabetes occurs due to poor insulin metabolism in the body, when the cells in the muscles, liver, and fat do not use insulin properly, or due to hormonal deficiencies or malfunctioning of the pancreas, resulted in reduced insulin production.

If diabetes runs in the family for many years, then heredity plays a major role in development of diabetes. But it is possible to prevent the development of diabetes in a baby by maintaining blood glucose level normal during pregnancy, so that the diabetes is not passed into the child.

Some risk factors may be associated with cardiovascular disease risk or just stress.

Obesity is also one of the major factors causing diabetes. Because of increased fat in the body, the muscle and tissue cells become resistant to insulin and it leads to high blood sugar level in blood hyperglycemia and finally diabetes.
