Dianette Can Help Treat Acne

Dianette is an effective and reliable combined contraceptive pill that is also popular for treating acne and excessive hair growth (hirsutism) in women. This medication contains both artificial oestrogen and progestogen, which work together to prevent you from falling pregnant. It treats acne and excessive hair growth by blocking androgens from acting on your brain receptor. Androgen is a male hormone which if present in abundance can cause this awkward and uncomfortable condition as the hormonal changes trigger the overproduction of sebum due to which sebaceous glands expand, forming pimples. The blocking of this hormone successfully treats acne and unwanted hair growth. It is also considered an effective contraceptive as it helps in regulating irregular menstrual cycles, making them less heavy and less painful.

The artificial oestrogen as well as progestogen present in a Dianette pill tricks your body so it thinks that ovulation has already occurred, so that there is no release of egg from the ovaries. It further makes the womb lining thin so that an egg, even if it gets fertilised, is unable to attach itself and develop there. It also makes the cervical mucus viscous due to which a sperm is unable to penetrate the womb and fertilise an egg. The combined contraceptive pill show nearly 100% effectiveness if you take the first on day one of your period. Sometimes, you can also take it up until the fifth day of period, provided you wait for seven days or use a barrier contraceptive such as condoms.

Dianette pills should be taken for 21 days of your cycle after which there is a pill-free period of seven days during which you will be assured of complete protection. You are likely to experience a bleeding similar to your normal period, which is known as withdrawal bleeding. The withdrawal bleed, during the seven days, should not be confused with your normal menstrual bleed as it is just a way of expelling hormones. Since Dianette contains stronger versions of artificial progestogen and oestrogen, the chances of having side effects increases slightly. However, these side effects are moderate and are expected to disappear as soon as your body gets used to the synthetic hormones. If these side effects endure for more than a few weeks, it is better to consult a doctor.

Women using this combined contraceptive pill regularly have reported to experience few side effects which can be listed as nausea, migraine, headache, fluid retention, breast tenderness, weight gain, vaginal thrush, hypertension, changes in menstrual bleeding, breakthrough bleeding, menstrual spotting and low libido. In some rare cases, women may also experience decreased liver function, stroke, irregular brown patches on the skin, gallstones, blood clots and pulmonary embolism. Although any woman who is above 18 years of age can use this medication for birth control purposes, you cannot take Dianette pills if you are already pregnant, breastfeeding, suffering from heart, kidney or liver problems, high cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure, angina or serious migraines.
