Washing Hands Regularly

The hands are the first parts of our body that come in contact with whatever there is in the environment and keeping it clean improves our chances of surviving better. By washing hands you disinfect yourself from harmful germs.

Always wash hands after wetting them under warm stream of water. Rub your hands with soap and scrub them for about 20 seconds, cleaning between the fingers and also under the nails. Finally rinse the hands and dry them with a paper towel or an air dryer.

Wash hands:

1. Before eating
2. After using the bathroom
3. Before feeding or playing with a baby
4. After cleaning a baby
5. Before and after cooking
6. After playing with pets
7. After caring for a sick person.

Prepare Food with Special Care

1. Always clean your hands, surfaces and utensils with hot soapy water before and after preparing food. This goes especially after you have cooked poultry, meat, etc.
2. Keep foods such as raw meat, eggs, poultry and seafood from ready-to-eat foods.
3. Always refrigerate perishable items within two hours after cooking. Ensure that the refrigerator is set no higher than 40 degrees F.

To disinfect food:

1. Wash the cutting board, utensils, dishes and counter tops using a hot soapy water once you have prepared the food.
2. Use paper towels to clean the surface of the kitchen.
3. If you use cloth towels, make sure you wash them often and that too in hot cycle in the washing machine.

How to be Hygiene

Apart from washing hands, some other forms of hygiene are also important to make sure that you and your family remain happy and healthy. These include keeping the skin hair and nails clean.

When suffering from common cold and flu:

1. Make sure that you always cough and sneeze into a tissue and throw it in a bin
2. Cover the sneeze or cough
3. Clean the hands after every time you sneeze or cough.

To live a healthy life, it is important that you live by the rules of basic hygiene and care and the above mentioned health tips will help you prevent diseases.
