How Good Is A Treadmill For Me?For people who like to walk or run for exercise but who live where weather can prevent these outdoor activities, a good alternative is a treadmill. A treadmill is a stationary unit, usually kept indoors, that has a moving platform on it. This platform is typically a large conveyor belt that it run by a motor or flywheel. There are less expensive versions which utilize the flywheel. This is where your forward motion causes the belt to move. Higher end treadmills are controlled by motors and speed can be increased or decreased with the push of a button. Treadmills are a great advantage for cardiovascular health. Many treadmills have a function that increases the incline, making the body work harder, even at just a brisk walk. Treadmill training has a huge amount of health benefits. Treadmills offer a reduced impact as compared to walking or running on the street or on a track. This makes stress on the ankles, knees and lower back almost non existent. They are also great for people who cannot walk or run outdoors because of weather, road conditions, safeness or time restrictions. They are affordable so a gym membership isn't necessary to use a treadmill. They can be purchased and used in the home. Also, you can do other things while on the treadmill like read or watch T. V. Treadmills can come with some great features. These include step counting, heart rate monitors and calories burned during your workout. Also, the exact distance and slope you are walking/running can be monitored closely. Many people don't realize there is another use for treadmills other than for their own exercise. They can be used by animals as well. Horses that are being tested for racing run on specially built treadmills. The same with cars. And now Fido has a place he can exercise as well. Treadmills are commonly used to exercise overly active dogs. But the important thing is to make sure the dog gets trained for such running and never tie the leash to the treadmill. This can cause unfortunate injury or could strangle the dog. Unfortunately, many people grow tired or bored with their treadmill and they become dust collectors. Some of the older ones can also take up quite a bit of space, however there are now models designed to fold up easily and store under the bed. Make sure to use the equipment properly to avoid injury. It also is harder to train for outdoor running on a treadmill for a couple simple facts. First, there is no wind resistance which makes the running easier than it would be outdoors. Also, because of the strict pace , runners feel unnatural when running the treadmill and this can cause them to easily lose their balance and be injured.Source: Free Articles from ArticlesFactory.com
