Helicobacter Pylori, commonly referred to as H.Pylori is a bacteria that can be contracted by eating raw or undercooked foods, contaminated water, utensils, through saliva or kissing and via the transfer of other bodily fluids. H.Pylori infects over 50% of the population and although it is strongly associated with Chronic Gastritis and ulcers, most people have little or no symptoms at all.

Helicobacter Pylori,H.Pylori The Silent Assassin Articles commonly referred to as H.Pylori is a bacteria that can be contracted by eating raw or undercooked foods, contaminated water, utensils, through saliva or kissing and via the transfer of other bodily fluids.  H.Pylori infects over 50% of the population and although it is strongly associated with Chronic Gastritis and ulcers, most people have little or no symptoms at all.

H.Pylori is primarily found living in the stomach or in the lining of the upper part of the Gastro-Intestinal tract but it can also make its way to the liver causing Hepato-cellular damage.

Prior to the discovery of H.Pylori, the presumption was that alcohol, spicy food, smoking and stress were the main culprits that lead to ulcers.  In 1982, scientists correlated that in actuality it was the H.Pylori germ that was the principle cause of Peptic Ulcers and Gastritis.

More than 80% of people who are infected with the bacterium are actually asymptomatic (without symptoms) resulting in the infection remaining undetected for many years.

Chronic Infections such as H.Pylori can create un-relentless internal stress that will gradually weaken the immune system and deplete the stomachs natural defenses increasing the likelihood of symptoms such as; bloating, fatigue, heartburn, reflux, intestinal gas, nausea or vomiting, abdominal pain, heart burn, bad breath, migraines and anemia.

A simple stool antigen test can be used to detect H.Pylori but blood antibody, Urea breath tests and Stomach biopsies are sometimes also used.

Conventional treatment often combines multiple Antibiotic medicines in conjunction with a proton pump inhibitor to decrease the production of stomach acid.  There are also some very potent naturopathic and herbal remedies that can be used to treat the infection.  Usually these herbal remedies will contain licorice extract to inhibit the growth of the Helicobacter Pylori and are used in combination with supplements that heal, soothe, repair and strengthen the mucosal barrier, stomach lining and entire Gastro-Intestinal tract.
