Is AIDS just a myth?

Have you ever heard anyone saying that AIDS is just a myth? That there has never been any such disease and all the deaths are caused due to some other reason that has not been disclosed by the government!

Denialists are a dime a dozen on the internet. They have the proof and they are vocal but are there any proof to their accusations and why are they claiming the AIDS and HIV do not exist? Denialists like Celia Farber are increasingly popular on the internet and the reason is really surprising.

At present, the world wide total of people dying and dead from AIDS is slowly crossing several millions! American Denialists like Celia Farber: Journalist, Peter Duesberg : Professor of molecular and cell biology, University of California, David Rasnick: biochemist, and Harvey Bialy: biochemist are just a few who have been vociferous in stating that AIDS and HIV have no relation. There are several government officials that have also offered support to the farce with political conservatives supporting it whole heartedly.   And unfortunately this has managed to convince people like President Thabo Mbeki who have now refused to buy and stock the life saving retro viral for the thousands of HIV positive patients in Africa.

It doesn’t help that several prominent quacks claim to be able to heal AIDS without any anti retroviral treatment and by just placing their hands on the patients in South Africa. This had just managed to reinforce the view that AIDS drugs are unnecessary and the drugs may cause disease rather than heal it.

Manto Tshabalala Msimang, the health minister of South Africa also supports these views and has described anti retroviral therapy as poison for HIV positive people. She is supported by prominent magazines like CONTINUUM and New York lab technicians like Roberto Giraldo who serves on Thabo Mbeki advisory panel. Denialists are also actively working to suppress the use of anti retroviral therapy in children.

In America, deaths and births of infected HIV children are rare due to the high control and awareness carried out by the NIH and the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. But that is not the same in Africa where prominent HIV positive citizens, local citizenry and infected parents are advised to have nutraceuticals as replacements for anti retro viral therapy.

But the fact is that AIDS and HIV exist and can kill people. Denialism has however managed to take the life of thousands of African citizens, newborns and even the life of the Denialists themselves. Denialists like Christine Maggiore gave birth to HIV positive children like Eliza Jane that expired due to AIDS disease and she herself expired earlier this year; and the entire editing team of Denialist magazines like CONTINUUM died due to unsupervised HIV and AIDS.
