Some people look into surgeries to help them lose weight,Is Gastric Bypass Surgery right for you? Articles Gastric Bypass isone of those that can tremendously help, but it is not for just anyone. Gastric Bypass is one of the many bariatric surgeries that are available, all bariatric surgery are not all to help you lose weight, most of them are for people with intestinal problems, the two surgeries get mistaken for one another quite frequently, so be careful when referring to bariatric surgery.

Different people think that surgery is a good way to lose weight because diet and exercise is too difficult for them. This surgery is not an easy way to lose weight just so you can get out of diet and exercise, it is used for people that are at least one hundred pounds overweight and have life or death issues with weight and medical issues. This surgery is intended to help people with health problems, not just to help the average person “look good”. It is not a way to get out of dieting.

There are required conditions for having Gastric Bypass Surgery.

1. You have been obese for at least 5 years.

2. You do not have an ongoing problem with alcohol.

3. You do not have untreated depression or another major psychiatric disorder.

4. You are between 18 and 65 years of age.

The number of people going through with this surgery, has tremendously increased in the last three to four years. The number of gastric bypass surgeries performed per year increased from 14,000 in 1998 to 108,000 in 2003, I am sure that the numbers have gone up since then.

The individuals that get the surgery, will need to change the way they eat and what they do in their life, or this procedure may not be successful. One of the important things you need to think about before having the surgery is the weight is not just going to disappear. You still have to watch what you eat and exercise and this will take at least one year for good results and possibly even more time. Some people are also known to have gained some weight back.

You need to know that just by having this surgery done does not mean that you will get down to your ideal body weight. You will lose enough weight to be clear of all of your medical conditions and not be “obese” anymore.

Gastric Bypass surgery is a good way for people that need to lose weight to live and be healthy, but it is not for everyone.
