How many times per day do you find yourself sitting there worrying about something that might happen,Letting Go Of Stress Articles or reflecting on issues in your past that make you either angry or afraid? If you’re truly honest with yourself, then chances are you spend much more time stressing over issues that you have no control over, or worrying about issues that you’re not willing to take action on due to additional fears that prevent you from taking action.

For years I found I carried anger over the mistreatment I received from my brother when we were children, and this anger constantly cropped up whenever his name was mentioned from my mom. The stress that resulted from my anger eventually became so bad that I noticed my ears would start to ring from my blood pressure rising whenever I remembered how cruel he was to me. Even though what he did was many years ago, it still held it’s effect over my life, and I had to find a way to stop allowing it to rule my life with all the stress that it gave me. The answer came when I was talking to a friend about the issue, and he recommended something he’d learned when he was trying to stop drinking that implied that we have no control over the actions of others, but we do have full control over how we respond to what others do, and we don’t have to allow those people to “rent space in our heads”. It was true. I had not only allowed my brother to rent space in my head, but I had allowed him to buy a condo there where he could set up permanent residence!

An example of how our additional fears of taking action can prevent us from solving a problem was realized when I recently had a neighbor experience a burglary at her apartment, and immediately I found myself worrying that the same thing would happen to me since I too didn’t have any apartment alarms installed when I originally moved in. For almost a week I couldn’t sleep because I worried that somebody would break in and something even worse than losing all my possessions would occur. I had the unreasonable fear that paying for an alarm system would wipe me out financially, but the only way I could resolve this stress was to take action on it, so I called a company to come and install a wireless security system in my apartment. My problem was solved, the stress was eliminated, and my piece of mind returned. It ended up being a lot more affordable than I dreamed it would be, and realized afterward that my fears of financial loss were unfounded.

Sometimes the very best way to let go of stress is to simply live within the moment. Learn how to meditate and focus your mind only on what’s happening around you at the time. Take deep breaths, and feel your stress disappear. Sounds simple, but believe me it works!
